The Connect U program is part of Pima Community College’s First Year Experience. The Connect U program connects students new to Pima who have participated in a mandatory Registration Session with their classes, their campus, and their peers. Connect U is a 4 hour workshop that is offered year-round in three cycles at fivePCCCampuses (Desert Vista, Downtown, East, Northwest, and West) and also online. The Fall cycle is July through October. The program consists of 18-20 sessions filled with workshops, tours and activities for new students that are facilitated by currentPCCstudents who serve as Peer Mentors. Peer Mentors will be expected to attend and participate in each Connect U event from July through October along with attending training prior to the start of the cycle. Peer Mentors may also be asked to support campus organizations for new students throughout the semester.
Connect U Student Peer Mentors provide students new to Pima Community College with an introduction to the College. Connect U Peer Mentors will be responsible for facilitating each of the 4 hour Connect U session that will be offered across the College from July through October.
Duties and Responsibilities
Peer Mentors will assist with the implementation of each Connect U session, which may include but is not limited to:
Contacting students to register, confirm and/or reschedule participation in a Connect U session;
Providing check-in and registration at each Connect U;
Leading a small group of new students in discussions and icebreakers;
Providing tours of thePCCcampuses;
Helping students navigate their first steps in preparing for college, including answering questions about resources and the student experience at Pima;
Assisting students in setting up various digital resources like MyPima, D2L, etc.
Following up with students after the Connect U program to answer questions.
Moderating 1 discussion post for Online Connect U in D2L
Leading live chats with new students on First Year Experience Facebook page
Responding to questions as a team submitted to the collaborative email setup for CU Mentors
Leadership and Civic Engagement
Assist in the planning and implementation of the Connect U program such as in developing discussion topics, creating and leading icebreakers, and developing campus tours;
Assist in developing and facilitating leadership training opportunities for new students either during the Connect U program or during the Fall semester;
Assist with the assessment and evaluation of the Connect U programs.
General Office Duties
Hand out information to students
Call students to register them for a Connect U program
Be responsible for supplies for Connect U programs and restock as needed
Registered for at least 6 credits atPCCthe prior semester, Spring 2018
Achieve satisfactory academic progress (3.00GPAor higher preferred).
Register for at least 6 credits atPCCthe upcoming semester, Fall 2018

Experience in student leadership opportunities, service learning projects, college work experience, and/or experience working with high school or college students.
Skills in leading small groups
Clear and concise verbal and written communication

Development of positive and cooperative interpersonal relationships
Manage own time and work independently
